JUDGE JAMES MICHAEL McGING
James Michael McGing has been a judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County since
2006.  He is currently assigned to the Housing Section First Municipal Division.  He
has been found qualified or recommended by all evaluating bar associations.   

He received his law and undergraduate degrees from DePaul University.  In
addition, Judge McGing is a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico,
Virginia.    Prior to becoming a judge, James Michal McGing was an attorney for 20
years.  His practice was concentrated in Personal Injury and Worker’s
Compensation from 1992-2006 and prior to that in Criminal Defense 1988-1992
and prior to that as an Assistant State’s Attorney.  Judge McGing also served in a
variety of positions with the Cook County Sheriff including, Legal Advisor, Director of
Organized Crime Intelligence, and Chief Administrative Officer amongst other roles.

Judge McGing is active in numerous community and legal organizations.  He is a
volunteer at Miscercordia, a prior member Culver Military Youth Academy Parent’s
Board, on the Board of Directors for Trinity Dance Company and Northern Express
Youth Hockey.  Judge McGing is also on the Northern Illinois FBI National Academy
Exec Committee and President, Dept of Justice Regional Computer Forensics Lab
Oversight Board, U.S. Attorney General’s Anti-violence Initiative.  He is a member of
the Chicago Bar Association, FBI LEEDA, and FBI National Academy Associates.

Judge McGing is married with three children and is a lifelong resident of Chicago
and Cook County.

LEGAL BACKGROUND:

Prior to becoming a judge, James Michal McGing was an attorney for 20 years.  His
