JUDGE MATTHEW E. COGHLAN
| Judge Coghlan is currently assigned to the Criminal Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County and sits at the George Leighton Criminal Courthouse at 26th & California. He was first elected to the bench in 2000 and retained in 2006. Previous assignments include Felony Preliminary Hearings, Bond Court, Domestic Violence Court and Traffic Court. He received his B.A. from the University of Illinois in 1984 and his J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1987. Prior to being elected, Judge Coghlan served as a Cook County assistant state’s attorney for thirteen years. He also served as a Chicago fire fighter from 1997 to 2000 and was assigned to a truck company in Chicago’s Kenwood neighborhood.
